About Wellness Matters

Wellness Matters Summer 2004 EditionWellness Matters, is a Health and Wellness newsletter designed to motivate employees and their families to be healthy and to live actively. Making Wellness Matters available either in hard copy or electronic format creates health awareness; it complements your organization's wellness program, and it can even serve as your newsletter complete with logo and employee news.

Wellness Matters is an investment in employee wellness. And that means you'll have healthier and happier people who are likely to be more motivated and more productive both on and off the job.

More than 100 organizations coast to coast subscribe and distribute Wellness Matters to their staff as a direct investment in their employees' health and wellbeing.

In a recent survey of more than 15,000 of our readers, hundreds of men and women said they love the newsletter's fitness tips, nutritional updates, easy recipes, and suggestions for a healthy lifestyle.

Wellness Matters is published quarterly: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Each eight-page issue contains at least 20 easy-to-read articles and offers readers the choice to change their lifestyle. The newsletter focuses on three areas: nutrition, fitness and lifestyle.

Wellness Matters is published by Canada Wide Media Ltd. It is a Canadian publication that addresses Canadian issues and lifestyles. We accept no advertising or sponsorship.

Writers

  • Melissa Edwards is a freelance writer and managing editor of the International 3-Day Novel Contest. She is also Vice Chair of the Word on the Street literary festival and a member of the editorial committee for Room magazine. Her thematic maps of Canada appear regularly in Geist magazine and have been collected in the Geist Atlas of Canada. Her hobbies include yoga, hiking, maps, travel and word games.
  • Julia Henrey holds a B.A. in English Literature and a B.Ed. She is an elementary teacher and the mother of three children with allergies and special dietary requirements. She grows organic vegetables, keeps organic hens and lives an active lifestyle.
  • Isabelle Jones is a full-time mother of two having previously worked as a flight attendant for Air Canada for 16 years until relocating recently to the United Arab Emirates. Her studies were done in Banking Administration and Psychology. She has served as a volunteer on several committees and is interested in sports, health and nutrition, sewing and crafting.
  • Jean Lewis is a retired school secretary. Her hobbies include hiking, yoga, quilting, Mah Jong and traveling which is often as a hiker. She enjoys writing, particularly about travel, and is always searching for ways to improve her life by reading medical articles, paying attention to diet and exercising mind and body. Jean lives in North Vancouver, has a husband, a son and daughter and four grandchildren.
  • Eve Lees is a journalist and former newspaper editor. She now freelance writes for several publications, including her weekly health column in six newspapers and gives speaking presentations on a variety of health topics. Eve also has over twenty years experience as a health and fitness professional. She was a fitness instructor, gymnasium manager and owned a natural foods store. Eve is a Certified Personal Trainer, a certified Wellness & Nutrition Specialist and studied nutrition, anatomy/physiology and kinesiology at Simon Fraser University, S.A.I.T. and the Canadian Health Food Association.
  • Jane Lightle has worked as the editor for 10 Canadian magazines over the past decade. A proud Vancouver resident, she’s studied the Master of Publishing Program at Simon Fraser University and holds a degree in English Literature from McGill University. Passionate about book design, she works on a wide variety of projects, from cookbooks to novels. Family, a challenging yoga session and the simple things make her smile.

Advisory Board

  • Patricia Chuey, M.S., RDN is a registered dietitian/sport nutritionist. Author of The 101 Most Asked Nutrition Questions and co-author of The 80-20 Cookbook: Eating for Energy Without Deprivation, she is currently the Coordinator of Nutrition Affairs for the Overwaitea Food Group. She is working on enhancing the health and wellness offering in Save-On-Foods stores through an initiative called “brightlife”.   • Dr. Chris Cunningham M.D., C.C.F.P. (EM), F.C.F.P. is a Family Physician holding a Fellowship, and also an Emergency Physician holding Certification, in The College of Family Physicians of Canada. He is on staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital in Vernon, British Columbia where he also oversees physician recruitment and is former Department Head of Family Practice. Married with two children, he is active in mountain biking and snowboarding and can sometimes be found in the local skateboard park.
  • David McD. Vass D.D.S graduated from McGill University and now practices family dental care in North Vancouver, British Columbia. He enjoys skiing, tennis, water-skiing, opera and leisure time with his family at their cottage on Anderson Lake.

Editor

  • Ann Collette has been a senior editor, writer and creative consultant with Canada Wide Media Limited for 14 years. Her diverse experiences in contemporary publishing have included everything from leading the editorial and creative redesign of existing magazines to the ground-up creation of new titles for specific audiences. Over the years, Ann has worked on a wide range of publications, including numerous health-related magazines.

Web Site Developer

  • Felicia Lo B Sc. (Pharmacy), M.G.D.C. is a graduate of the University of British Columbia. In an unusual combination of her education at the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design and her first-person experience in pharmacy practice as a pharmacist, Felicia is able to bring a unique and practical approach to custom communications problem-solving. Felicia is currently a Professional Member of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada.

Administration

  • Debbie Wood is the long-serving administrative coordinator with Wellness Matters. Her broad responsibilities with the publication include general business communication, custom orders, print coordination, and accounts, mailing and subscription management. Debbie, together with her husband and young daughter, enjoys an active life, with a special love for camping, swimming and golf.

Subscription Services

  • Nicole Gough is manager of subscription services for Wellness Matters. A graduate in Business Administration from Capilano College, Nicole’s understanding of the health information needs of employers, together with her knowledge of the benefits Wellness Matters to any corporate wellness program, have made her an excellent resource for business. Nicole loves yoga, hiking and healthy eating.
