Maximizing Your Time at Work

It is time to restructure your time if you are feeling overwhelmed juggling work, rest and play. Bring some discipline back into your life and learn to sometimes say “no.” Everybody needs time to pursue the things they enjoy.

  • If you work, make your lunch the night before, that way you will be able to sit down and enjoy a nutritious breakfast.
  • Get into a routine at work. If your first job is to read the mail, deal with it as you go and save yourself the trouble of having to re-read it. Schedule appointments rather than “drop-ins.”
  • You may be able to use part of your lunch hour to exercise. Or perhaps you can extend your working day by half an hour and take a longer lunchtime. Then you will have achieved a full work day plus an exercise period by the time you arrive home.
  • Consider going to the gym or for a run/walk before or after work. It needs discipline but say to yourself, “Monday, Wednesday and Friday are my exercise days.” Urge your partner to do the same and if you choose different days or times, the children will still be looked after.
  • Have a regular bedtime. Some people need more sleep than others but try not to vary the time you go to bed and the hours of rest too much.
